About Botswana
Botswana, officially known as the Republic of Botswana, is an enchanting landlocked nation nestled in Southern Africa. It is bounded by South Africa to the south and southeast, Namibia to the west and north, and Zimbabwe to the northeast, with a tenuous border with Zambia to the north near Kazungula. Despite being one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world, with a population of around 2.3 million people, Botswana is a treasure trove of cultural and natural splendour. The capital city of Botswana is Gaborone, which also holds the title of the largest city. Botswana prides itself on its robust wildlife population, making it one of Africa’s premier safari destinations. In the heart of the country, you'll find the Okavango Delta, one of the world's largest inland deltas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The nation's economy is one of the most robust on the African continent, largely driven by diamond mining. Since gaining independence in 1966, Botswana has experienced some of the world's highest average economic growth rates. This rapid economic growth, however, has its set of challenges, such as an over-reliance on mining and a high HIV/AIDS infection rate. Despite these hurdles, Botswana boasts one of the world's highest average economic growth rates and provides one of Africa's highest standards of living for its citizens. The country has a rich heritage and diverse ethnic groups that co-exist harmoniously, making it a symbol of peace and stability in Africa.
