About Nepal

Nepal, formally recognized as the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, is a landlocked nation in South Asia, nestled primarily within the mighty Himalayas, between the expansive territories of China and India. With a geographical expanse of 147,516 square kilometers, it serves as a home to nearly 30 million people. Globally acknowledged for its distinctive topographical variety, Nepal proudly encompasses eight of the world's ten highest peaks, including Mount Everest, the highest point on Earth. The national language is Nepali, and Kathmandu, characterized by a medley of ancient architecture and modern urban hustle, is the capital and largest city. Spanning from the lowland Terai plains to mid-hills, and ultimately, the awe-inspiring high Himalayan range, Nepal's geography is strikingly diverse. Influenced significantly by its two dominant neighbors, India and China, Nepal's rich cultural tapestry is enchanting. The dominant religion is Hinduism, yet Buddhism's presence, manifested in the revered birthplace of Gautama Buddha, Lumbini, is notable. The country operates as a federal parliamentary republic, with the president as the head of state and the prime minister, the head of government. Despite grappling with challenges such as its landlocked geography and poverty, Nepal's efforts in conservation, notably being one of the few countries to have increased its tiger population in the 21st century, are commendable.
