Covering an area of about 163,610 square kilometers, Tunisia is home to nearly 11.7 million people. Arabic is the official language, and Islam is the predominant religion. Tunisia has a diverse culture, with a significant influence of Amazigh, Arab, Turkish, and French cultures, evident in its music, cuisine, and arts. The country is known for its beautiful beaches, desert landscapes, and distinctively North African architecture, especially visible in the Medina of Tunis, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Tunisia has a mixed economy, with sectors such as agriculture, mining, tourism, and manufacturing playing key roles. Despite political turmoil following the Arab Spring in 2011, Tunisia is considered the only full democracy in the Arab World. It has a high human development index. It is a member of the United Nations, the Arab League, and the African Union, among others. Tunisia also boasts several UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as the ancient Carthaginian city of Carthage and the Roman amphitheater at El Jem.
