About North korea

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea, more commonly known as North Korea, is situated in East Asia and occupies the northern half of the Korean Peninsula. It is bordered by China and Russia to the north, and by South Korea to the south, with the demilitarized zone acting as a buffer between the North and South. The capital city of North Korea is Pyongyang, which is also the nation's largest city and its political, industrial, and cultural center. The country has an estimated population of around 25 million people. North Korea is known for its reclusive nature and the strict control the government has over many aspects of life. Its political system is based on an ideology known as Juche, or self-reliance, and it is one of the few countries in the world that is still under nominally communist rule. Despite the many restrictions, North Korea possesses a rich cultural history with a tradition of music, dance, and art. Visitors can explore the ancient Buddhist temples and various UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Additionally, North Korea's landscape is predominantly mountainous, providing opportunities for hiking and skiing, particularly in the Paektu and Kumgang Mountains. However, tourism is strictly regulated, and travel must generally be arranged through specialized tour operators.
