About Poland
Poland, officially known as the Republic of Poland, is a country located in Central Europe. It is bordered by seven countries, including Germany to the west, the Czech Republic and Slovakia to the south, Ukraine and Belarus to the east, and Lithuania and the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad to the northeast. Poland covers an area of approximately 312,696 square kilometers, making it the 9th largest country in Europe. Its capital and largest city is Warsaw, a vibrant metropolis known for its iconic skyline and rich history. Poland's landscape is diverse, comprising vast plains in the center and south of the country, sandy beaches along the Baltic Sea coastline, and the Tatra and Carpathian mountain ranges in the south. Poland's culture is deeply rooted in its history, reflected in its food, literature, music, and festivals. The nation is also known for being the birthplace of notable figures, including the world-renowned physicist Marie Curie and Pope John Paul II. Poland's economy is one of the fastest-growing within the EU, with key sectors being services, manufacturing, and agriculture. Despite the tragic events of World War II, Poland has managed to preserve much of its cultural heritage and is home to 16 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The official language is Polish, and the majority of its 38 million population is Roman Catholic.
