About South korea
South Korea, officially known as the Republic of Korea, is a country in East Asia, situated on the southern half of the Korean Peninsula. It shares its only land border with North Korea to the north, while it is surrounded by the Yellow Sea to the west and the East Sea, also known as the Sea of Japan, to the east. Covering an area of around 100,210 square kilometres, South Korea has a population of approximately 51 million, making it one of the most densely populated countries in the world. The capital and largest city is Seoul, a major global city and leading international business hub, with an economic output larger than many countries. Other major cities include Busan, Incheon, Daegu, Daejeon, Gwangju, Ulsan, and Suwon. South Korea is known for its remarkable rise from one of the world's poorest countries to a developed, high-income country in just a few generations. This economic growth, often referred to as the 'Miracle on the Han River', was driven by rapid industrialization and an emphasis on technology and education. South Korea has a diverse culture, with a rich history dating back to ancient times, yet it is equally known for its modern cultural exports, including K-pop music, films and TV dramas, collectively known as the 'Korean Wave'.
