About Bangladesh
Bangladesh, officially known as the People's Republic of Bangladesh, is a country located in South Asia. Geographically, it is positioned by the Bay of Bengal to the south, with India flanking its west, north, and eastern borders, and Myanmar to the southeast. Dhaka, the capital city, serves as the country's economic, political, and cultural powerhouse. With over 160 million inhabitants, Bangladesh is among the world's most densely populated countries. The national language is Bengali, spoken by the vast majority. Bangladesh boasts a vibrant cultural heritage, reflected in a wealth of traditions in literature, music, dance, and art. The country's calendar is marked with numerous festive events, such as Pohela Boishakh, the Bengali New Year. As for the economy, Bangladesh balances agriculture, services, and industries, with textile manufacturing and ready-made garments playing a crucial role in its exports. The nation's strides in the IT and digital sector are also noteworthy. Despite its vulnerability to flooding and cyclones due to geographical factors, Bangladesh has developed robust disaster management and resilience strategies. The country fought for its independence from Pakistan in 1971, after a nine-month-long war marked by significant loss and hardship. Since then, Bangladesh has grown rapidly, focusing on improving living standards and promoting economic development. Bangladesh holds membership in various international organizations, including the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Nations, SAARC, BIMSTEC, and the OIC.
