About Malawi

Malawi, officially the Republic of Malawi, is a landlocked country in southeastern Africa, bordered by Zambia to the west, Tanzania to the north and northeast, and Mozambique surrounding on the east, south, and southwest. The country is nicknamed 'The Warm Heart of Africa' due to the renowned friendliness of its people. Lilongwe is the capital of Malawi, while Blantyre is its largest city. Known for its stunning landscapes, Malawi's topography is marked by the Great Rift Valley, with Lake Malawi, Africa's third-largest lake, stretching along most of its eastern border. The country is largely agricultural, with more than one-third of its GDP and 80% of the workforce dependent on farming. Its main crops include tobacco, tea, and sugarcane. Despite its natural beauty, Malawi is one of the world's least developed and most densely populated countries, grappling with issues such as health crises, economic development, and education. The country's rich cultural heritage is evident in its numerous ethnic groups, each with its distinct traditions and languages, with Chewa being the most populous. English and Chichewa are the official languages. Notably, Malawi's vibrant music and dance, distinctive arts and crafts, and traditional festivals have earned it a place on the cultural map of Africa.
