About Bahamas

The Bahamas, formally known as the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, is an island nation located in the Lucayan Archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean. It comprises 700 islands, cays, and islets, showcasing the beauty of the Atlantic in its most pristine form. This country covers about 97% of the Lucayan Archipelago's land area and is home to 88% of the archipelago's population. The capital, Nassau, situated on the island of New Providence, is a harmonious blend of old world and colonial architecture and modern metropolitan charm. Bahamas’ official language is English, and it operates on the Bahamian Dollar. The nation's economy heavily leans on tourism and finance. A stunning 30% of the country’s GDP is based on income generated through tourism. Its beautiful coastlines are a tourist magnet, with white sandy beaches and clear blue water that are recognized globally. The Bahamas also host an annual festival, Junkanoo, an energetic, colourful parade of live music and dance which pays homage to their West African and colonial British roots. It is also a location of great biodiversity, hosting numerous unique species in its numerous national parks and protected areas. Famous for its friendly locals, the country’s unique blend of African, American and European cultures has resulted in a unique, laid back approach to life in the islands.
